Benny Bailey, supported by the "Israeli Forum", was sent off to a field research in Europe. After meeting individual young Jews in Budapest, Berlin, Stockholm and Saloniki, he analyzed his findings with Jewish intellectuals and activists. In December 2005 the "Israel Forum" board has approved the support of the Jewish Salons idea conditioning the following three guiding principles:
- Initiative will be led in each community by local young members
- Initiative is an alternative and therefore is to remain non-institutional
- Salon activities will be inclusive and welcome both Jews and non-Jews
